It’s a shame that not much about mythical history is written down and what is written down is done in such a way that it could easily be mistaken for fiction, because maybe then questions like this would have better answers.
I’M DOING TWO SHOWS THIS WEEKEND! On Saturday I’ll be at the PORTLAND ZINE SYMPOSIUM! And on Sunday I’ll be in Eugene for CAFE by Books With Pictures! Come see me and my freshly unbroken arm!

Would make sense for it to be a little of both. I mean, a lot of the half-human species are probably a mix of ancient humans that accidentally and/or intentionally altered themselves working with magic. And once people know that things like harpies or satyrs exist, more people could change themselves the same way.

Fine then, keep your secrets = w=
Two Braincells in a pod, these two
Personally I believe either is true.
Supernatural critters like Gryphons, Dragons and Unicorns existed on their own before humans met them. Those Supernaturals with part human are actually the offspring of humans that changed themselves via Magic. Any Totem or Heraldic beast (which are basically Totems in my eyes) only exist because humans did.
Does that make sense?
